How to create a 3D kitchen design with Architect 3D

Much more than simply a place for preparing meals, the kitchen is a sociable space where people spend time and relax. Children and adults come together here to share moments, memories, meals or even activities. So it is very important to make sure this space is both practical and aesthetic to allow you to enjoy all these special times without distractions. Our advice to create your 3D kitchen design
Take measurements
Before you start visualising the kitchen of your dreams, you need to consider the constraints of the space you want to install it in.
Start by taking detailed measurements of the walls, ceiling height and available space on the floor. Carefully note the locations of doors and windows, and very importantly, gas, water and electricity connection points to avoid installing an item in the wrong place.

Choose the most appropriate type of kitchen
You then need to choose the type of kitchen you want for your space.
L-shaped kitchen
An L-shaped configuration follows the walls of the room to make best use of a corner and create a return. It can be adapted to any shape of room and even allows you to design a dining area with a table and chairs, for example.
I-shaped kitchen
An I-shaped configuration aligns all your equipment along a single wall. It can therefore be installed easily in any room, but it is particularly suitable for small spaces, long rooms or galley shapes.
U-shaped kitchen
A U-shaped kitchen creates perfectly organised work spaces. This functional design allows you to access all your equipment simply by turning around. But make sure the central space measures at least 1.20 metres to allow you to move around easily.
Kitchen with a central island
A central island configuration involves installing a linear kitchen and then adding an island in the middle of the room, at least 70 centimetres from the other furniture. This very practical configuration allows you to create an area in which you can move around freely while still having easy access to all equipment. You can place a storage island in the centre or choose to make this a cooking area or even a bar with stools.
Parallel kitchen
This design involves installing items of furniture opposite each other in a parallel configuration. Just like the U-shaped layout, this allows easy access simply by turning around. It is a very practical solution for long rooms. It helps to free up space and create a huge work surface.
Choosing your equipment
The next step is choosing the equipment you want in your kitchen: an American-style fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, cabinets, etc. If you are planning to renovate an existing kitchen, think about all the things you like and want to keep as well as the items that no longer suit your needs and you absolutely want to change.

Choose the style of the kitchen

Designing a kitchen requires a perfect balance of functionality and aesthetics. It is important to bear this in mind when choosing materials. A surface can look very attractive but be difficult to maintain: fabrics hold odours, and a carpet quickly becomes a nightmare if you drop something on it. Choose tiles instead, for example. They are easy to clean and very hard-wearing.
Maintain a triangular working area in the kitchen
The kitchen space can be divided into three main areas:
- Cold area (fridge and freezer)
- Washing area (sink and dishwasher)
- Cooking area (hob and oven)
The work triangle rule involves positioning these elements in the shape of a triangle that is as equilateral as possible to streamline movements between each area. Too much distance between these three areas will make your kitchen less functional and ergonomic, and each action will be less efficient.
